Wilderness Challenge is held each fall (late September/early October), and is open to all Cub Packs and Scout Groups in Manitoba.
The 67th Winnipeg Cub Scout Pack typically participates in the Wilderness Challenge (and Cuboree). The Scout Troop typically participates in the Wilderness Challenge.
Wilderness Challenge is an annual event held at the Scouts Canada’s Camp Amisk, located across from LaBarriere Park on Waverley Street, 6 km south of the Perimeter Highway. Participating teams follow a course through woodland trails, using compass and map skills to find several “Towns” along the trail. At each town a fun and challenging task is given which promotes teamwork, communication, and development of outdoor skills.
Scouts run the challenge course on Saturday.
Cub Scouts participate in a Cuboree, which usually runs Saturday afternoon at Camp Amisk, followed by a campfire for all participants on Saturday evening. Both Cub Scouts and Scouts have the option to camp at the site on Saturday night, and possibly Friday night as well. This is a decision made by the Pack and the Troop.
Pricing is set each year.
If at all possible, we would like you to register your youth for this camp at one of our fall open house / registration nights in early September. Registration deadline is usually the last weekly meeting before camp.
Parents are asked to pick up and drop off youth at Camp Amisk.
Scouts and Cub Scouts attending the whole camp, please see equipment list provided by the section Scouters.
Youth who are attending for a day only, please bring: bagged lunch, water bottle, mess Kit (plate, bowl, fork, knife spoon, mug), water bottle, weather-appropriate clothing, bug spray, wide brim hat, sunscreen, backpack. Your youth should wear a necker (if your youth has one).
1. This event may include an air rifle (pellet gun) range, as one of the activities on Sunday. If you have concerns about your child’s participation in the event, please discuss this with one of the Leaders.
2. For any parents attending camp, who are not registered members of Scouts Canada, we will need to have you complete and sign both a Physical Fitness Certificate for Non Members and Individual Release And Hold-Harmless Agreement. You will also be required to complete a child and youth safety course prior to attending any camps. Please ask one of the Leaders when you register for the camp.
3. Weather can be variable, so please prepare your child for warm, cold and wet weather. Overnight camping is in tents (two to four youth per tent).
