Scouts (boys and girls ages 11-14)
If outdoor activities are calling you such as hiking, canoeing, camping then Scouts is for you. If you are intrested in learning skills such as survival, knots, cooking, camping, and paddling then Scouts is for you. Scouting gives each youth the chance to learn to be a leader. Scouts meet in groups called troop. The troop is split into smaller groups called patrols. Scouts are guided by the Motto, Promise, and Law.
Motto
Be prepared.
Promise
Two versions of the promise are offered:
Secular promise: On my honour, I promise that I will do my best, to respect my country and my beliefs, to help other people at all times, and to carry out the spirit of the Scout Law.
Religious promise: On my honour, I promise that I will do my best, to do my duty to God and the King, to help other people at all times, and to carry out the spirit of the Scout Law.
Law
A Scout is helpful and trustworthy,
Kind and cheerful,
Considerate and clean,
Wise in the use of all resources.
3rd Waterdown Scout meetings are from 6:45 till 8:45 at Sealey Hall on Wednesdays. Dues are $2.00 per week to be handed in by scout each week. Please have scout wearing 3rd Waterdown t-shirt and necker to all meetings unless Full Uniform is requested. All scouts need a backpack (65-80L recommended, a good sleeping bag (-10 degree celsius minimum), a camp knife with a locking blade, and a mess kit (preferably plastic as the metal ones do not work well at winter camp) with a mesh bag for hanging.
Personal equipment (backpacks, sleeping bags, sleeping pads) is available for loan for camps, if families are unable to obtain it; however, loaned equipment must be treated with respect and proper care. Individuals who borrow gear without treating it with respect will not be permitted to borrow it again.
If you have any suggestions for the program please feel free to contact the troop scouters at any time.
