It started in Canada between 1907 and 1910 with the Boy Scouts of Canada being incorporated by an act of Parliament on June 12, 1914. It has become a co-ed program for all levels with the name now changed to Scouts Canada. Scouting has more than 25 million members in 216 countries & territories around the world.
Scouts Canada's Mission
"To contribute to the education of young people, through a value system based on the Scout Promise and Law, to help build a better world where people are self-fulfilled as individuals and play a constructive role in society"
This is achieved by:
Involving them throughout their formative years in a non-formal educational process.
Using specific method that makes each individual the principle agent in his or her development as a self-reliant, supportive, responsible and committed person.
Assisting them to establish a value system based upon spiritual, social and personal principles expressed in the Promise and Law.
