A sequence of lessons based on a radical approach.

CURRENT PROJECT: Study Group for RE-READING KEYNES

The term "Social Science" is an oxymoron.. On the surface, the words announce the intention to apply the scientific method to the study of societies. However, there was massive confusion about the nature of science, and the nature of of human societies which led to enormously poor results. The whole of humanity has suffered as a consequence of the loss of knowledge which has resulted from this mis-guided approach. The problem can be briefly described as follows. Details of the problem, and its solution, will be spelled out in the lessons to follow

Study of society is always contextual and particular -- "society" cannot be studied as a universal abstract not located in time and space. Unfortunately, science was understood as a set of universal laws which must be invariant with respect to time and space. Thus, especially in economics, an effort was made to create a society which was time and space invariant. An artificial human being -- homo economicus -- was constructed, and the planet was populated with this rational robot. These beings behave according to mathematical laws, unlike real world humans. This artificial planet is outside of time and space, and hence lends itself to the generation of universal economic laws. Unfortunately the laws that apply to this planet have no relation to what happens in the real world.
