Left Vevee (Lk Geneva) this morning. Passed through Sion (lots of history) and up the valley on very windy, steep roads to Arolla.
- Staying Hotel du Glacier (32SF). Lucked out! Our view is majestic.
- Assembled day packs and hiked up Arolla valley to Plans de Bertol (about 2500 feet climb).
- Scoped out Cabone de Bertol (hut) with binoculars. Picked route across glacier.
- Met several folks descending and collected additional information. It's located on a knife ridge and views to Matteral valley (Matterhorn, Monta Rosa, etc.).Will attempt tomorrow, and stay in hut.
- View of 3 mountains: Mont Collon, Pigne d'Arolla (over 13000') and Mont blanc de Cheilon.
- Local kids band from Sion played in the Arolla town square upon arrival. Very cool.
