Aug. 11, Tuesday: Grindewald -> Faulhorn summit

Interlachen -> car to Grindewald:

• Eiger, Monch, Jungfrau --- reach out and touch these three incredible peaks.
• Grindewald: under North face of Eiger.
• Grindewald: chair to Bort (3400' up to 5100')
• Hike Bort -> Waldspitz (6300') -> Bachalpsee (lake) (7400') -> Faulhorn (summit: 8800')
  • Failed in last two attempts in 2001 and 2005) due to thunderstorms. Finally made it.
  • 4.8 miles uphill in 2 hr 12 min. Legs felt awesome.
  • Great pics from summit.
• Descended via Bussalp -> Grindewald.
• 9100 feet of ascend/descend. No leg problems. All systems on go.
• 12 miles today.
• Stayed at Alplodge (hostel) in Interlachen right over the river. 32SF
  • Met folks on pilgrimage from eastern Austria. Trekking thru Austria, Switzerland, France and Spain to Santiage de Compostein. See Schweiz: Jakobsweg for more info (I haven't had time to do the research)
