How I manage without some 30 items in luggage and when I walk around town

Why I always carry certain items in the pockets.

Travel lite is about managing without a lot. From towel to nail trimmer. From day pack to wallet.

If you are not into traveling light these techniques enables you to ad many nice items/functions to your gear. Just as an example, I can add 34 light long sleeve shirts and still stay below 11 lbs, 5 kg!

21 pages, 15 photos.

I don't suggest you go that far. It looked possible so I tried. But with little sacrifice in functions you can make your luggage much, much lighter.

Thinking outside the "only a carry-on bag"? What to buy, how to modify etc.

20 pages, 24 photos.

The some 14 items I carry, travel guide, camera, sun glasses, wrist watch etc. are mostly compact and weigh 10 oz, 280 g. (Wind breaker not included.) Volume is 12 fl oz, 336 ml. All in the pockets - no day pack.

13 pages, 12 photos.

With umbrellas and hand fans

For travel, home, sport* or heatwaves.

If you are cooler you also look and smell more fresh.

At least 12 important features are listed to look for when buying ready made or ordering from a tailor. Do you know all of them? (Tailors are inexpensive in inexpensive countries.) Goes far beyond the common (partly bad) advice: "loosely fitted clothing and a hat."

Special Super Cool Umbrella

About twice as cool as the good umbrellas for which claimed decrease in temperature is some 12 F, 6 C, degrees.

An effective Hand Fan.

Also makeshift solutions.

I list some 7 advantages of a slim point and shoot camera compared to a bigger one. How many do you suggest?

They go into the pockets of the Super Cool Dress. And you are prepared for temperatures from very hot to freezing! One Holy Grail of Travel Light?

Also makeshift solutions - instead of "bringing a sweater just in case". When buying or ordering e.g. a windbreaker there are some 14 features for warmth and compactness to look for. How many can you suggest?

"...Australian Open ...On-court ...50 degrees C...Janko Tipsarevic retired ..due to the intensity of the heat."

I say: They can dress cooler in sports and win more!

A scene from the tropics

I came back to my accommodation around noon. In the air conditioned reception sat two foreigners. They asked, "Have you been out in this heat and sunshine? It's 100 F, 38 F!" Yes, no problem. I walked 20 minutes along the river to a restaurant. They had a stand fan, otherwise I had been too hot there. On the way back I did some shopping. All the time I was perfectly comfortable, only wet from transpiration on the lower back.

I checked their clothes. Wrong quality, colors, design and they way they wore them. I said: Buy my reports guys ! They haven't yet. They still spend the days indoors!

Last time i got the heap to the right down to what is on the left. An inch and cm tape in between.
