Community Pledge of Support
After the Exchange of Promises or Vows, the presider addresses the gathering:
And now that [Bride and Groom] have made the declaration of their love, we have the opportunity to respond. Marriage is more than a union of two people. Like every marriage, the love of husband and wife involve all of us in an embrace of life.
As we give thanks to God for the love which brings you, [Bride and Groom], together, so, too, we recognize the need to offer our support to you by our love as family and in friendship. I ask all of you present to respond, if you are so inclined, with your hearty I DO to this question I ask of you:
As family and friends of [Bride and Groom], then, do you pledge your loving support to this couple as they make this commitment before us today?
All: WE DO!
And so we pray:
God of our mothers and fathers, hear our pledges encouraging and supporting the union of [Groom and Bride]. Hear our prayers for the joining of this couple [or, these families].
Bless us as we offer our prayerful and loving support to [Bride and Groom].
Bless [Groom and Bride] as they pledge their lives to each other. With faith in you and in each other, may they always bear witness to the reality of the love we witness today. And may their love shine as a true reflection of your love for all of us. All: Amen.
