The visual arts class offers students experiences with detailed explorations in the classic art of drawing. In addition students will gain confidence, proficiency, and skill after working with a variety techniques.
GOALS OF VISUAL ARTS EDUCATION
Art in school is both a body of knowledge and a series of activities. Drawing’s major components are:
*Making art (art production);
*Responding to the tone of an object and incorporating it in a drawing.
*Acquiring knowledge about different forms of drawing.
ASSESSMENT
Assessment is the process of judging in terms of criteria. Assessment is an integral part of expected learning outcomes. Criteria are expected outcomes and observable evidenceof learning. The main purpose of assessment should be to improve teaching and learning and to measure student’s progress. Evaluation of each student will be by the following methods:
OVERALL PERCENTAGE
Weekly progress – 40%
Projects – 50%
Written assignments – 10%
GRADING SCALE
A = 90-100%
B = 80-89%
C = 70-79%
F = Below 70%

PROJECT GOALS
There are 30 main projects; the goal of this class is to get through about two projects a week. Some projects may take longer than others so this timeline is not exact.

You will be required to keep a sketchbook that will have assignments.
WEEKLY PROGRESS
Each week you will be given a weekly progress grade for a total of 40 points/10 points each day. Your weekly progress grade will be based on the improvement or progress of your artwork. When failing to improve or finish a weekly project, points will be taken away as necessary.
DUE DATE & LATE POLICY
Due dates on the Important Dates schedule are approximate. When 3-4 students finish the project, I will set a due date for each project. The due date is the time all work in class will be stopped. After that week you must petition and explain to me why you need more time; however, you will not be given more regular class time.
SEMESTER FINAL PROJECT
On one piece of poster paper students will draw a scene of their choice.
Project Guidelines
- Must be original work
- Can be portrait, nature, objects, etc
- Can be in either B&W or color
- Can use pencil (colored or not), pen, or charcoal
- Must use either opaque or acrylic styles of shading
