The Ifill CommLab is a student workroom that is open 7-days a week. This space is available for all Ifill Students or Simmons students enrolled in a course that has a media component. It can support students creating both analog and digital course work. All students using the space have access to professional dedicated support staff, including the Associate Director, Student-Media & Academic Technology, specialized student Lab Agents, and a team of dedicated Media & Academic technology fellows.
The CommLab Macs are equipped with media making software, including the full Adobe Creative Cloud for students to use for coursework. There are also SD Card readers, scanners, and printers available at multiple stations.
The CommLab's two Epson inkjet printers and stock of specialty papers can print high quality posters, photos, and other design projects. With the three Epson scanners, students can make their analog work digital or scan photo negatives. The dry-mount press and assortment of tools and supplies can help students mount their work perfectly to a mat board.
The CommLab is staffed by a team of highly trained student workers, all of who have a passion and background in production work. They are available for student support during staffed lab hours. They can help you learn how to use our equipment, train you in the podcast suites, or just offer you technology support.
