Partnership with Lamar Institute of Technology
Dual Credit
Silsbee High School partners with Lamar Institute of Technology (LIT) to offer dual credit classes.
Dual Credit classes are offered to all high school students.
**Students may not take more than 18 hours per semester**
What is Dual Credit?
Dual credit is a process through which a student may earn high school credit for successfully completing a college course that provides advanced academic instruction beyond, or in greater depth than, the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for a corresponding high school course. The “dual credit” earned is college credit and high school credit for one course, regardless of location or mode of delivery. This includes such coursework offered at the high school, on the college campus, or via distances education. This also includes programs and courses that may be offered under different names such as “early college,” or “concurrent enrollment.”
Steps to complete for enrollment into Dual Credit Courses:
1. Request Dual Credit Course(s) on your High School Schedule through the Counselor's Office
2. Apply for LiT (Lamar Institute of Technology) through Apply Texas - Even if you have not completely decided to take dual credit courses, you can still apply to LiT.
