Freshman Year

It's never too early to plan for the future!!

• Build strong skills by taking CHALLENGING COURSES

• STUDY hard and get good grades

• READ - to strengthen your vocabulary

• Become involved in EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

• INPUT school activities, honors, awards, activities, volunteer work, etc. into the RESUME on Naviance Student

• Meet with your school counselor to FAMILIARIZE YOURSELF with GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS and available COURSES

• Make SUMMER plans - VOLUNTEER, attend SUMMER PROGRAMS

April:

• Students excelling in honors level courses, Register for SAT II Subject Tests (May or June) for those courses you are finishing up this year (example: Biology H)

May-June:

• Take SAT II Subject Tests, if necessary.

What Can Parents Do:

• Monitor academic progress.

• Encourage your child to get involved in a wide variety of activities.

• Assist your child with selecting courses for the following school year.

• Review your child's academic program for 10th grade.

• Help your child plan meaningful activities for the summer.

• If you have not done so, start a college savings account (in your name).
