The SAT II Subject Tests are hour-long, content-based tests that allow you to showcase achievement in specific subject areas where you excel. You may take up to three SAT Subject Tests on a single test date. There are 20 SAT Subject Tests in five general subject areas: English, history, languages, mathematics and science. The SAT Subject Tests that you take should be based on your interests, academic strengths, and completion of course work in that area.
Most colleges do not require the SAT II Subject exams. However, the highly selective colleges often do use these exams for admission, course placement, and as a tool to advise students about course selection. If the colleges you’re interested in require or recommend SAT Subject Tests, find out how many tests are required or recommended and in which subjects. Typically they will require a minimum of two SAT II Subject Tests. You cannot take the SAT Subject Tests and the SAT on the same test date.
