Helpful Strategies: for at home

*Read daily. Model what a good reader does- sound out words, chunk sounds together, and sound stretch.

*Play rhyming games in the car- what rhymes with star? See how many words they can come up with.

*Sing the ABC’s

Sing the Vowel Song- This is sung to the tune of, “Are You Sleeping”. Vowels are special, Vowels are special, A, E, I, O,U, Y. Every word must have one, every word must have one, now you try, now you try.

*A fun way to incorporate writing with reading is having your child practice spelling CVC words or sight words using shaving cream or chocolate syrup on a cookie sheet.
