Welcome first grade friends! This page is where you can find information about Reading RtI, view uploaded lessons, and other resources to help build your reading skills. I will updated this page weekly to insure that the skills we are practicing at school can be practiced at home too. Visual Phonics
What is Visual Phonics? Visual Phonics is a Multi-Sensory approach to identify letter names and hearing their sounds. It is a system of 46 unique hand cues. Visual phonics includes sounds commonly referred to as vowels consonants, dipthongs, and digraphs. I will be using Visual Phonics with your child this year. I encourage you to learn the signs too. Check out the YouTube link to the right to learn the signs for each sound.
Super Star
This website is used during RtI while Mrs. Durkee is testing students one-on-one. Your child will have time each week on Thursday's to visit this site. Below you will see an overview of what this program is about and how it can help your child not only with reading skills but also math skills. Teach your Monster to Read
This is a wonderful website that is FREE and will help your first grader with reading skills. It is also a lot of fun! You will need to set up an account to get started. Please click on blue link below to start teaching your monster to read.
Freckle
On this site your first grader can practice reading and math skills at their own level. When your child first signs in it will give them a quick placement assessment to determine the appropriate level for them to start at. In your child's take home folder on the left side will be the access code and directions for logging in for the first time. Click on the blue tab below that is labeled, Freckle to get started.
