I moved to Oregon over 25 years ago and have come to truly love living here. I grew up moving between Illinois and Mississippi, which helped shape my appreciation for different people, places, and perspectives.
I am married and have two children and one cat. Outside of school, I enjoy hiking, biking, reading, board games, video games, and watching anime. My family and I love spending time outdoors, and I especially enjoy exploring Oregon’s trails with my son!
I am excited to be part of the SHAPA community and to support students and families as they grow and learn together!
I have worked with youth for most of my life, beginning with volunteer work in a Big Brother program on the south side of Chicago. I continued this work in various communities, including Mexico, supporting young people from a wide range of backgrounds.
I eventually settled in Oregon, where I attended college in Eugene and earned both my degree in Counseling and my Master’s degree in School Counseling. I began my professional career working in a youth residential treatment facility before moving to the Oregon coast, where I served as a school counselor in a small rural school.
Throughout my career, I have worked with children from many different backgrounds and experiences. I am currently the K-8 School Counselor at SHAPA, where I support students in their academic, social-emotional, and personal development.
I believe every student is a unique individual with strengths, potential, and something valuable to contribute to the world.
My role as a school counselor is to help students understand themselves, build confidence, and develop skills to navigate challenges. I focus on creating a safe, supportive, and encouraging environment where students feel seen, respected, and supported.
I believe that strong relationships are at the center of student growth, and that caring adults play an important role in helping children discover who they are and what they are capable of becoming.
