Study Goal

Anxiety has been identified as the second most important issue by people with Parkinson's. There are currently no effective treatments for anxiety. Very little is known about how and where anxiety starts in people with Parkinson’s, or why some people with Parkinson’s are more at risk to anxiety than others. AND-PD aims to help us to get a better understanding of anxiety in people with Parkinson's.

What's Involved:

This study looks at anxiety in people with Parkinson's over time. Study participants undergo a neurological examination where they are asked to do some physical tasks; psychological testing where they are asked to answer a range of questions, and a computer-based task. Some study participants also have brain scans using a technique called Magnetic Resonance Imaging. This measures how the brain reacts and looks at characteristics of anxiety in different areas of the brain. Patients have the option of in-person or remote (online) visits at the start of the study and then are invited back for another two visits after 6 months and 1 year.

Who Can Take Part?

People who:

Have a diagnosis of Parkinson’s

Are 18 -89 years old

Can tolerate behavioural & psychological testing

As all varying degrees of anxiety are common in PD, all people with PD are eligible
