It gives us great pleasure to announce this year's Undergraduate Dissertation Prize winner Claire Taylor. The Undergraduate Dissertation Prize is awarded each year in recognition of the outstanding work and the exceptional achievement of a student on our BA programme.
The winner of the dissertation prize is Claire Taylor. Claire's dissertation supervisor was Dr Sabine Little, who nominated Claire with the recommendation, ‘’With her study on how eating disorder practitioners conceptualise the relationship between cognition and anorexia. The work is exceptionally well grounded in literature and displays an approach to research that is extremely cognisant of the highly sensitive context. Drawing on a range of practitioners as participants, the work is rigorous in both ethical considerations and approach to data analysis. This dissertation was a joy to read – congratulations!’’
Claire was thrilled to receive the award, saying “I am delighted to have won the award, especially as mature student and mother of five! I poured a huge amount of time and dedication into my dissertation and it is a great feeling having a piece of work I am proud off receive this level of recognition
The topic is close to my heart, and was inspired by the personal experience of my child, whose strength and determination I will forever be in awe of.
I was fortunate I had access to an amazing group of practitioners who willingly shared their opinions and experiences. My supervisor, Jessica, was very supportive and an excellent critical eye for which I am thankful.
I believe it is important to continue research in the eating disorder field, and more widely in supporting young people with their mental health. I am going on to complete the MSc in Education and Psychology here at the School of Education. I hope to continue research with both practitioners as they are core within treatment and, importantly, with young people themselves. They are the true experts and I would hope to give their lived experience a voice in the future.”
Congratulations Claire!
