This page has been designed as a reference point for speakers contributing to the Sheffield DClinPsy programme. This site includes practical advice about how to structure and deliver teaching sessions, support trainee learning needs, submit expense claims, and access relevant contact and location information.
The programme is delivered by The University of Sheffield in partnership with local psychology service providers and is commissioned by NHS England. It is approved by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS). Upon successful completion, trainees become eligible to apply for HCPC registration and obtain chartered status with the BPS. HCPC serves as the statutory regulator for practitioner psychologists in the UK.
Our programme embraces a pluralistic and integrative position, rooted in the complementary paradigms of evidence-based practice and practice-based evidence. We are committed to equipping trainees with the knowledge, skills, and critical awareness necessary to navigate the complexities of contemporary mental health care. The curriculum acknowledges the impact of social structures, power, privilege, and disadvantage, ensuring that trainees develop cultural humility and a systemic understanding of mental health. We champion scientist-practitioner and reflective practitioner models, integrating theory, research, and practice to develop doctoral-level competence in psychotherapeutic delivery, leadership, professional conduct, and critical inquiry. Throughout the programme, our trainees engage with multiple theoretical frameworks and intervention strategies, adapting their methods to different needs, choices, and contexts. These are organised around Topic Specialisms/Themes, moving and expanding the focus across training from direct client work towards greater indirect and consultancy and leadership working.
Your contribution to the training programme is greatly appreciated and we aim to support and work with you as closely as possible.
