PROGRAMME POLICY ON TAKING HOLIDAY LEAVE DURING
ACADEMIC TEACHING TIME
General Principles
As adult learners, it is expected that all trainees will attend teaching in order to learn and develop as a trainee clinical psychologists. As a consequence, teaching should only be missed in exceptional circumstances.
In accordance with BPS accreditation standards, we are required to ensure that all trainees attend 95% of teaching in order to assure appropriate coverage of materials to practise on placement/ qualification. For our current teaching programme this equates to a maximum of 10 missed teaching days across the entire programme.
We would also require that leave is not taken over any scheduled formative and summative assessments (e.g. exams, vivas, etc).
Procedure for application
The following procedure must be followed if you wish to apply for leave during teaching time. New procedure:
Leave requests for teaching days needs to be discussed with your academic tutor
Following this conversation a request should be sent to the programme director, via email, explaining the reasons for the request.
The programme director will respond as soon as possible to this request.
Monitoring and Regulation Process
This policy is reviewed regularly at the Programme Training Committee. In addition, trainee attendance and sickness are routinely monitored in Internal Examination Boards.
