Live Works is the School of Architecture’s ‘project office’ that employs students and graduates on design and research projects in collaboration with civic and community partners. It is also our ‘urban room’, a space for conversations between students, communities and city organisations about the past, present and future of Sheffield. It is located in an old post office on a busy shopping street in the city centre at 108 The Moor, S1 4PD.
Live Works was set up in 2013 as a unique initiative in architectural education that brings together engaged learning, employability, civic engagement and knowledge exchange. Through Live Works’ long-term partnerships in Castlegate our students’ work is making a real difference to community engagement and placemaking in the area.
The following Live Works projects, in conjunction with the many Live Projects in Castlegate, have formed a decade-long co-production process that has expanded and strengthened over time. This work has raised the capacity of local civic and community stakeholders and has directly led to substantial national, regional and local funding being awarded to regeneration projects in Castlegate, and to a significant improvement of community engagement and inclusive decision-making for the area.
