Live Projects are a pioneering educational initiative introduced by the School of Architecture at the University of Sheffield in 1999. Groups of masters architecture students work with a range of not for profit clients including community groups, charities, schools and local authorities. Students produce a wide array of outputs including design/build, masterplanning, building feasibility studies, sustainability strategies, online resources and participation toolkits.
Live Projects establish an awareness of the social responsibility of the architect and produce work of exceptional quality that empowers clients and students alike. They provide valuable tools, ideas and designs to community clients that would otherwise be unable to obtain them.
There have been multiple Live Projects in Castlegate since 2014 in collaboration with Sheffield City Council, Yorkshire Artspace, local ‘pioneers’ and community groups. In conjunction with Live Works, they have made a substantial contribution to the regeneration of the area by kickstarting projects, attracting funding and raising community urban capacity and aspirations.
