Training Courses & Staff Development

Mandatory Training

  • There are 11 mandatory training courses that staff members are required to complete within the first week of employment. Please note that you will only be able to take the training courses once you have your university log in details. Many of these courses require renewal, but you'll receive an email reminder when it's time to renew each course

Additional Training

  • Out-of-hours training is required for any staff requiring out-of-hours access to the Arts Tower, outside of usual opening hours (8:00am – 6:00pm)

  • Research staff are required to undertake additional training regarding protecting research data

Staff Development

myDevelopment: myDevelopment is a central hub for all learning and development modules. It is designed to allow you to enable your own personal and professional learning and to better support the development of others. The hub includes mandatory training as well as a wide range of learning and development materials to support your development and career at the University. You can manage all active training via your training record

  • People Development: The University offers a number of in-house training and development opportunities for staff

  • Supporting the Supporters: This programme offers staff development and training for University staff whose role is student facing, involves student support or student administration. Some of these sessions may be of interest to you

  • Online Learning and Development: You can access the University’s subscription to Linkedin Learning, TED and other learning opportunities through the University Digital Learning and Development website

  • Managers Toolkit: contains resources intended to provide support to managers irrespective of the amount of time that you have been a manager for, or your position on the grade structure. Whether you are brand new to management or are more experienced, there is something for you here

  • Think Ahead (ECRs): is open to all mentees who self-define as being an ECR (postdocs, research associates, assistants, fellows, university teachers, teaching fellows, lecturers). The majority of Think Ahead mentors are senior academics however we recognise the importance and value of a diverse mentoring pool and welcome mentor applications from anyone who would feel comfortable mentoring and supporting an ECR discussing career development, progression and professional development

○ Plan your support and development

There is no direct link between SRDS and reward but as a significant part of the conversation focuses on your performance and contribution, the feedback you receive should inform and be consistent with any decisions made regarding reward and recognition. Your Line Manager will meet with you to set your objectives, which will include discussing and agreeing a set of aims, based upon your job description, for the year to be reflected upon in your SRDS next year
