Module Choice Guidance

Choosing your modules

As a new student entering the University you are required to choose the modules that you will take this year and this is part of the  University's pre-registration process.

From 1 September you'll be able to access a module selection task within the Online Registration System where your non-core modules can be requested. (You will be alerted via email).

It is very important that you review the programme regulations and module information (linked within the relevant regulations) before making your selection. You will find a link to the regulations on your programme page. For each of the approved modules you will be able to review an overview of the content, the teaching methods and see how the module is assessed.

Please note:

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I find more information to help me make my decision?

If you require any further guidance before selecting your modules, please contact your Programme Director in the first instance  (contact details on your programme page). If you are notified that your Programme Director is unavailable at the time, please contact us at archaeology@sheffield.ac.uk and we'll ensure a member of academic staff gets back to you.

What should I do if I have difficulties registering for modules online?

Please contact the pre-registration helpline at preregistration@sheffield.ac.uk.

How will I know if my module choices have been approved?

Your approved module choice request will be added to your student record and you'll proceed to the next step in the registration process. If any of your choices are rejected, e.g. the module is oversubscribed or your selection is not in line with the programme regulations, then you will receive an email notifying you of the rejection and you'll be able to submit an alternative choice

Please be aware that it may take a few days to approve your modules. The Department will be dealing with a large number of requests at this time, but we will try to approve your requests as quickly as possible.

How do I amend my module(s) once they have been approved?

If you select a (non-core) module which you later wish to change you can do so within the first three weeks (18 September - 6 October).  This is known as the 'Add-Drop' process - further information.

When can I access more module information and resources?

Access to the relevant module folders in Blackboard will be available one week prior to the start of the semester. If you change modules at that point, it will be a minimum of 48 hours for access to the new module folder to be activated.

When will my timetable be available?

From 5 September, if you have a module approved, you will be able to view your timetable for semester one via iSheffield which is the University's mobile app for Sheffield students. It features campus maps, library reading lists and personalised information for your course and is available to download for free from both the Apple App Store and Google Play, and you can access it on the web. You can access the mobile and web versions of iSheffield and find out more about the app here.  University timetabling guidance
