Where to Focus

Getting Ready for PSAT

PSAT is essentially a precursor to the SAT. It is not a mandatory test but it gives students valuable information. The results are linked to Khan Academy and students can then take lessons through Khan Academy to help them better prepare for the SAT.

The test measures:

  • What you learn in high school

  • What you need to succeed in college

When: Schools can administer the PSAT/NMSQT on one date, but students may only take the PSAT/NMSQT once. Ask your teacher for details.

What is on the math section

CAASPP stands for California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress and is a statewide assessment program that measures student performance. Students in grades 3, 8, and 11 take the CAASPP test. Providing students with an online CAASPP practice test can help students prepare for the official test. Some of the subjects covered in these assessments include English Language Assessment (ELA), Mathematics, Science, and Spanish.

CAASPP consists of four different types of assessments which are:

  • CAAs (California Alternate Assessments)

  • SBAC (Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium)

  • CAST (California Science Test)

  • STS (The Standards-based Tests in Spanish for Language, Reading and Arts assessments.)
