About
Student Council (StuCo) is a club/organization at Sharon Middle School in Sharon, Massachusetts. The club consists of students from 6th, 7th, and 8th grade whose goal is to make SMS (and hopefully the world!) a better place. They do so by meeting regularly, planning and facilitating events, communicating with their peers and each other, and serving as leaders in our school community.
As an added bonus to enhancing the quality of our school community, members of StuCo also get the amazing benefit of making lifelong friends and being a part of a special group that learns, grows, and has a lot of fun together!
StuCo plans events under three different "branches". If you click on the image to the left, you can read up on each event branch and the types of events that are included in each. In short, our three branches are Student Activities, Global Issues, and School Spirit. By differentiating our events into these categories, StuCo has become a more dynamic organization who provides more quality programming and meaningful experiences for our school community.
Currently, StuCo plans two events for each branch each "event cycle", which is a two-month period of time (For example: September-October is our first event cycle of the school year.)
There are multiple ways to get involved with StuCo!
Apply to become a Team Representative (Team Rep). Each fall, the three teams in each grade-level hold an application and interview process to select students who will represent their team. Team Reps form the core of StuCo, and once you are chosen, your place on StuCo is secure throughout your tenure at SMS!
Apply to become a StuCo Officer in the spring. In May of each year, StuCo holds an application and interview process to determine the Officers, or leaders, of StuCo for our next school year. This is a competitive process, yet all students (even if you have never been on StuCo!) are welcome to apply!
Volunteer for an event or event series that you are passionate about! Even if you are not on StuCo, or you do not get chosen for one of our positions, you can still get involved! If there's an event StuCo is planning that you'd like to help with, let us know! Likewise, if you have an idea for an event, you can come to a StuCo meeting (Days 3 & 6), propose it to us, and you can help lead the event with us!
And even if you do not want to join StuCo, you can still be involved in all we have to offer by participating in our many events and initiatives. Sign up for a tournament, dress up on Spirit Days, attend one of our thoughtful presentations, have fun at a celebration . . . there's plenty of ways to enjoy StuCo!
