April 2021 - Konnichiwa, Fuji High school no minasan!
We are so happy to hear from our tomodachi school, Fuji High School, located in Tokyo, Japan. We look forward to exchanging ideas and collaborating projects with you! Here is a message from Fuji High School. Arigato!
Fuji High School is a public high school located in the middle of Tokyo. Our school is different from other public schools as it has not only high school students but also junior high school students in the same building. We have about 400 students in Jr. high, and 500 in Sr. high. Most of our students belong to some club activities. The famous ones are Kendo, Track & Field, and Tea Ceremony. We have 3 big school events: Sports Day, Cultural Festival and Corus Festival. Almost all the students go up to 4-year undergraduate schools. Please visit us!
Here are FIVE questions we asked to Fuji HS students. Arigato for your responses!
Is there any difference between natto dishes in Tokyo areas and Osaka areas? Have you ever cooked (or heard) any dessert using Natto?
Japanese entertainment/media is very popular in the United States (Anime, Manga, etc). Is American entertainment/media (Books, movies, TV shows, etc) also popular in Japan? If so, what are the popular ones in Japan and what do you think about American media/entertainment?
School systems in America have their own grading system (A,B,C,D,F letter grades, Grade point average). What kind of grading system do japanese schools have?
What is your favorite festival (not a holiday)? What’s the purpose of your favorite festival and what special customs are associated with it?
How has COVID changed your daily life in Japan?

Due to Covid-19, schools in our school district (SFUSD) have been closed since March 2020, and we are taking all classes remotely (zoom & classroom). Here are how students spend their time during the pandemic period. Want to read more about "Pandemic" in San Francisco? Click HERE.

こんにちは!わたしはダレンです。
One of my favorite activities throughout the stay at home period is researching every country in the world. There were a total of one hundred and ninety five countries. I wrote roughly three quarters of a page for each country. The entire process took about 2 weeks, but I reviewed my notes often. I learned a lot of information through the research on just how large this world is. ありがとうございます
My Quarantined Life
Hello (こんにちは)! Some things about me: I am sixteen years old and my name is Sophie. I like calling my friends, playing sports and video games. Since the pandemic started, there’s been many things that changed. Before I woke up at 5:00 A.M. and slept at 12:00 A.M. Now that we’re doing online school I wake up at 8:00 A.M. and sleep at 2:00 A.M. I’ve gotten into new hobbies like playing video games, running, and art. My favorite thing to do right now is playing Valorant with my friends and watching a show on Netflix called Criminal Minds. What do you like to do in your free time?

Jan - Feb 2021 - Cherry Blossom Trees vandilized in San Francisco's Japantown
Cherry Trees start to bloom in early February in San Francisco. Early, isn't it? "Someiyoshino (ソメイヨシノ)" is well-known "sakura" in Japan but San Francisco has a different kind of sakura (Sorry! We couldn't find the name!). Every year, we enjoy those sakura around the city. We took these photos on Feb 12 this year.
Unfortunately, a few sakura tress were totally vandalized in San Francisco's Japantown in early January. Those trees were planted to commemorate the visit of the emperor and empress of Japan to San Francisco in 1994. Read the article below or Click here for the local news about the vandalized cherry trees.
