Vision for The Paraeducator Leadership Network

The Paraeducator Leadership Network enhances the development of paraeducators by guiding and supporting equitable opportunities and positive school communities - through sharing best practices among paraeducators, providing professional development for paraeducators by paraeducators, leveraging our strengths individually and collectively, and providing high quality resources to paraeducators to build on their professionalism in order to promote all our students to reach their individual potential and the competencies of the SFUSD Graduate Profile.

Values and Beliefs

  • Paraeducators are essential in the process of creating and maintaining a positive school culture and learning experiences that move students toward their potential.
  • The work of paraeducators is evident in the day-to-day support of students, families, teachers, support personnel, administrators, community members, and other paraeducators.
  • Paraeducators hold expertise that they share with others through the creation, facilitation, and implementation of paraeducator-led projects and professional learning communities.
  • The community is strengthened and students make progress toward their full individual potential when the network focus is on encouraging high quality collaborative action, and when relationships are developed between paraeducators and school staff and administration so that paraeducators are included in the decision making process.

Theory of Action

Students make progress toward their individual potential and the SFUSD Graduate Profile when paraeducators…

  • Establish relationships that promote social, emotional, behavioral, and academic learning as the primary experience for students.
  • Work with others to collaboratively support students in their varied experiences.
  • Gather information, materials, and data necessary for the reporting of students’ social, emotional, behavioral, and/or academic progress, and share it with appropriate staff as a way of informing future strategies for adults to collaboratively use with the students.
  • Give voice to their expertise that impacts the community by tapping into the brilliance of every student and making a positive difference for students and the community.
