College Entrance Exams

Testing at SFUSD

SFUSD will be hosting the 2024 PSAT/NMSQT at Lowell High School for only SFUSD students on Saturday, October 12, 2024, starting at 8:30 am, ending by 12 noon. (A makeup date for students observing Yom Kippur is available.) 


Registration and payment will be open via Total Registration from August 26th to September 23rd will be open to only 10th and 11th grade students from all SFUSD high schools. The cost is $18; no cost for 11th grade students qualified for free or reduced lunch.

How to register for the PSAT/NMSQT will be published to SFUSD families the first week of school in the fall.

The digital SAT will be offered at Lowell High School in Fall 2024 on the following Saturdays: August 24th, October 5th, November 2nd, and December 7th. Seats at Lowell will be released on Friday, May 24th, at 10 am on College Board's SAT registration website at https://satsuite.collegeboard.org/sat/registration. Please make sure to register early as capacity fills very quickly, and Lowell is one of a handful of San Francisco locations hosting the SAT.

Types of College Entrance Exams

Many 4-year colleges in California are not requiring college entrance exams as part of their admissions process. Please check the school's website for their admission requirements. 

You can also check on FairTest.org to view colleges that are SAT/ACT optional.

You may have to take SAT subject tests depending on the college and major you want to apply for. Be sure to check the school's website for their requirements. 

Some schools may require this test from students who have been living in the U.S. for less than 3 years. Be sure to check the school's website to see if they require this test.
