In Empowered Learner, we invite students to take charge of their learning by setting goals that integrate academic learning objectives, personal interests, and career aspirations. Students are asked to share drafts of their work with a broader audience, “reflect on and learn from their experiences,” and give and receive feedback. This builds “self-knowledge” and nurtures their “capacity to grow intellectually, socially, and creatively” as they develop a “growth mindset”. As students manage a process to achieve learning goals, change course as needed, and develop portfolios that document their learning process, they develop the “grit to persist in long-term efforts and persevere toward important goals.”
