BIO

My name is Rori Abernethy. This will be my 19th year teaching math and my 6th year teaching at James Denman Middle School in the San Francisco Unified School District. I previously taught math for 10 years at Oakland High School. I have a BA in Pure Math from the University of California at Berkeley. I am a third-generation STEM graduate from CAL. I obtained my Math Single Subject teaching credential from California State University East Bay.

I teach because I enjoy working with young people. I would like to give them access to the same opportunities I had when I was growing up and prepare them well for an increasingly competitive world. I want to help raise expectations and standards for my students who I think are brilliant, amazing and capable of doing anything!

In my spare time I enjoy growing plants, spending time with family, interior decorating, the beach, cooking, walking in nature, museums, theater performances, and dance classes.
