Research shows that family engagement in early childhood literacy is vital and helps to shape a child’s future investment in literacy. In this narrative, the creator reflects on how her family’s commitment to bedtime stories helped to “spark” a lifelong love for reading.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Emily Hazlett is a May 2021 graduate of SHU and a vocal music education major. Her literacy narrative was written to honor her family’s support of her literary development. When she eventually becomes a teacher, she hopes to support her students in their musical literacy journey.
