What is the Personal Project?
The Personal Project is the culmination of 5 years of the MYP that challenges students to use the skills they have acquired to be an independently learner to undertake a self-guided, long term project. The project is designed to allow students the opportunity to explore their interests and abilities in their chosen topic to produce a truly personal and creative product or outcome.
The project consists of several components:
- A Goal that outlines the purpose of their project that is grouded in the student's understanding of a Global Context.
- The Process Journal is a place for the students to record their journey through the process.
- The Product provides evidence that the student has achieved his or her goal.
- The Report communicates the student's learning and the process followed to create their product. It can be in either a video, presentation, or written form.
- The Showcase is an opportunity for the student to share their learning with the school's community as well as receive constructive feedback to help them determine the success of their project.
- An Academic Honesty Form that acknowledges the legitimacy of the students research and personal work done on their project.
General Inquiry Questions to consider throughout the process:
- Why did you choose the topic?
- What is your goal for the project i.e. what will your produce and why?
- How does your project connect to a Global Context?
- What ATL skills did you use throughout the process?
- How will you communicate your learning?
