General Check-In / Confidence Check
Offer a general check-in, beyond academics. Remember to inquire intentionally but keep it light...there are multiple appointments to get through per day.
How confident is the student moving into the Spring semester with their chosen major? This can change your overall advising approach.
Academic Progress Review
Based on current grades and progress:
Will they need to retake a class? Advise per the usual but a follow up may be needed. The drop date is Oct. 31st. Include necessary notes in WD.
Are they on track with credit hours?
Any risk factors (low GPA, F’s)?
Corequisite Progress
Some FYF students are single corequisite, some are double, some have not taken a corequisite at all just yet. (HS GPA/ACT assessment is highly important here!)
Which one are they taking?
What’s next in the sequence based on their major?
If the student is currently not in a corequisite but required:
Which one will they need to enroll in? (Which one first, if both?)
Create an enrollment plan. The course in green is what the student will enroll in.

Things to Consider:
Before Arriving to Your Appointment: Make sure that you have somewhat of an idea of the classes you would like to schedule for next semester. Familiarize yourself with your curriculum and prerequisite requirements. Set a reminder for your appointment day/time. The appointments will be held in my office, Office for First-Year Success. No zoom/virtual option will be provided. All appointments will be held in-person. Only select a time that you can commit to that does not interfere with other classes and obligations.
The Day of Your Advising Appointment: Be sure to arrive to your appointment ON TIME. If you cannot make it to your appointment on time you will need to reschedule based on advisor availability. There are multiple students with appointment slots each day so arriving on time is vital. If you are late or miss your advising appointment you must reschedule at a later date. If you miss your original appointment, your registration hold will not be lifted which means you will not be able to schedule classes.
When scheduling your advising appointment: You must include classes you plan or are considering taking in the Spring 2025 semester. Do not include "idk, unsure, haven't thought about it" on the scheduling form. Scheduling courses is your responsibility, therefore, if you do not include the courses you are considering, your advising appointment may be delayed. To see what classes you have next, you will need to visit the university catalog. Please be sure to bring a note of those classes to your advising appointment as well. Also, be sure to only schedule one advising appointment.

What classes have you considered for next semester? If you are unsure, you will need to check your academic catalog for ideas. (Do not type "idk" or "I'm not sure") Use this as an opportunity to prepare for your appointment beforehand.

JOTFORM SURVEY: https://form.jotform.com/232827206366054
Hello,
Based on your current standing in SE 1020, it is not mathematically possible for you to pass the course this semester. Because SE 1020 is a required course for your curriculum/degree plan and a condition of your admit status, you will need to repeat this class pending your decision to return in the Spring 2026 semester.
Since you cannot successfully pass SE 1020 this semester, in order to obtain your total of two (2) credit hours for Freshmen Seminar you will be required to enroll in SE 1010 for the Spring 2026 semester.
You will still need to meet with me in order to be advised and schedule your Spring 2026 classes. If you do not schedule nor attend your appointment, your registration hold cannot be lifted. Priority registration week will begin November 17th until November 20th. If you have not done so already, be sure to click the link below to schedule your advising appointment.
The deadline to withdraw from classes or resign from the University is FRIDAY, OCTOBER 31, 12:30 PM.
If you have any questions or concerns about this, feel free to reply to this email and I can assist you with this process.
