Weeks: 13-16 (Week 17-Final Exams)
This module empowers students to take charge of their second semester and beyond by building the skills and mindset needed to thrive in both their personal and academic lives. Through practical tools and self-awareness, students will confidently navigate adulting challenges, career paths, relationships, and community connections
Redefining Work Ethic in College
SE 1020 students reflect on their current attitudes toward effort, motivation, and productivity while learning how to set sustainable expectations and boundaries as they balance academic, personal, and work responsibilities. Advisors help students reframe “success” in alignment with their values.
College Is More Than a Degree
Students are guided to think beyond credits and GPA, using SE 1020 as a space to explore their interests, strengths, and sense of purpose. Advisors support students in connecting their academic plan to long-term goals and personal meaning.
Boundaries & Healthy Relationships
Through SE 1020 discussions and journaling, students reflect on their relationships with peers, family, and partners and learn how to set boundaries that protect their time, energy, and emotional well-being. Advisors can help students navigate social stress that impacts academic performance.
Microaggressions & Respect in Shared Spaces
Students engage in honest conversations about campus identity, safety, and inclusion. SE 1020 provides tools for identifying microaggressions and responding with confidence and care. Advisors offer safe, affirming space to continue these conversations one-on-one.
Building Community Beyond Orientation
SE 1020 encourages students to intentionally seek connection through involvement, shared experiences, and meaningful friendships. Advisors help students explore orgs, leadership, and campus resources to support social and academic belonging.
Radical Honesty & Difficult Conversations
Students practice communication strategies for handling roommate tension, group work conflict, and professor interactions. SE 1020 creates space for role-playing and reflection. Advisors can coach students through real-world scenarios as they arise.
Working With Your Advisor to Set Realistic Second-Semester Goals
With the support of their advisor, SE 1020 students create a clear, personalized plan for second-semester success balancing course load, campus involvement, wellness, and major exploration. This includes preparing for registration and reassessing academic fit.
Mental Health & Self-Regulation
Students learn how stress, comparison, and burnout show up in their daily routines. SE 1020 integrates self-awareness tools to build emotional resilience. Advisors reinforce these skills by checking in regularly and connecting students to campus support services.
Soft Skills for Real Life
Students develop foundational life skills like professional emailing, asking for help, managing time, and communicating across difference. SE 1020 offers practice in these areas, while advisors model and reinforce these skills in one-on-one meetings.
