ABOUT THE HMS LIBRARY

The HMS library is staffed by Library Media Specialist, Timarie Malo. The library hours are 8:00 - 11:15 daily.  The library operates under a flexible schedule which allows for collaborative lessons between Ms. Malo and classroom teachers. These lessons meet common goals - subject matter and information or digital  literacy knowledge.

The HMS library staff maintains a collection of books to meet the curricular needs of the school and reading interests of Hurley Middle School students.  Students can participate in various reading challenges that are offered throughout the year.

We are a member of the SAILS library network (see "Online Catalog" page).  This valuable membership gives us access to over 4 million materials in other area libraries and access to high quality databases (see "Research Databases" webpage). We lean on this membership to supplement our collection of materials to meet student needs.

Technology guidance is a large part of the HMS library's role.  This can be in the form of tech assistance and/or tech integration.

The library space (which was once a gymnasium) is a flexible area that can accommodate two classes at the same time.  It has a classroom area with a whiteboard, projector, and TouchView screen.  It also has a flat screen TV that is used as a daily notice board and has also been used for Skype visits, presentations, etc.
