We value our strong connections with our Sister City of Christchurch, New Zealand.
Like us, they have a group of people who are passionate about fostering links between Christchurch and Seattle. heir committee is called the Christchurch-Seattle Sister City Committee. Also, similar to us, they have links with the local city council in Christchurch.
The boards of both sister cities meet at least once every year virtually. At these sessions, we discuss potential plans for collaborating on a variety of topics and ways in which we can foster new partnerships and exchanges.
In addition to our virtual meetings, the boards of both sister cities plan to meet in person, once every two years. We take it in turns to arrange our visits in either Christchurch, NZ or in Seattle, USA. These are highly anticipated events where business leaders, council members and other interested parties are also welcome to join our visits.
Seattle Members of SCSCA to Visit Christchurch
February 22 - 24, 2026
It is an exciting beginning to 2026 as the SCSCA Co-President Richard Conlin will be leading a delegation of Seattle members to Christchurch February 22-24. We will begin the visit with a ceremony commemorating the 15th anniversary of the Earthquake on Sunday, and will then have tours, meetings and celebrations with our counterparts over the next three days, looking at new developments in Christchurch and discussing projects and joint activities. A special focus will be on the planned installation of a Pou Whenua carved by Caine Tauwhare at the Seattle Arboretum Gardens (see below), and plans for a Native American carving to be placed in the Sister City Garden in Christchurch in 2027/28.

In July 2023, The Seattle Christchurch Sister City Association Board connected with their Sister City counterparts from Christchurch, the Seattle Christchurch Committee.
Along with city officials from both Seattle & Christchurch as well as business delegates from Christchurch many meetings were held. The visit was initially planned as a commemoration of the 40th anniversary of Seattle and Christchurch becoming Sister Cities.
Unfortunately, Covid caused the reunion to be delayed.
