short note on the building
Mishkal Mosque, located in Kuttichira, Kozhikode, Kerala, is a 14th-century mosque built by the Arab merchant Nakhooda Mishkal. Known for its unique Kerala-Islamic architectural style, the structure is primarily made of timber and does not feature domes or minarets. Originally a five-storey building, it was partially destroyed during a Portuguese attack in 1510 and later rebuilt in 1578 under the Zamorin of Calicut. With its intricately carved wooden pillars, multiple doors, and temple-like design elements, the mosque stands as an important symbol of cultural harmony and historical trade connections on the Malabar Coast.
