Group 11
Aim: The primary aim is to create a form using gravity as its medium, and see if the individual pieces come together/modulate to a larger canopy or a pavilion.
Experiment No. 1: Testing different fabrics using gravity as a medium and observing the folds and flows forming on the following fabrics.
Fabric 1: Georgette
Process:
Fabric 2 : Khadi
This experiment was an idea of creating a dome when 6 of these similar looking pieces come together
Experiment No. 2 : Taking forward the previous iteration, we changed the design of the cut cloth and redesigned the idea of the dome and how the pieces joined together.
Fabric type: Glass fiber
Experiment 3:
With the aim of modulating an equilateral triangle, when tied on the adjacent 2 ends of the triangle and tied on the 3rd point a crease was intentionally put by passing a thread through the median of the triangle.
After tying the unit we thought of applying the random fiber glass mesh before the first layer of resin. The random fiber glass mesh was spread across the shape of the unit and the resin was applied but till the layer was drying, the random mesh accumulated at the curve which gave one side a deeper curve.
Experiment 4:
Cube: 120x120x120cm
Fabric: Woven Glass fiber
Dimensions: Equilateral triangle 100cm
To avoid a deeper curve occurring on one side as it happened in experiment 3, we applied the first layer only of resin and after the resin dried and the form took its shape equally we applied a layer of random mesh to harden it and give the form strength.
The larger idea was to combine multiple pieces, alternatively upside down, to form a dome.
