Experiment 2 : To test the work-ability of the material around one or multiple rigid members of a different material, without the use of a container so that the wax takes the desired form.
Apparatus and Materials Required : Candle wax, tall jar full of water, buckets , various containers of different sizes to pour melted wax into, heating mechanism (stove or heat gun), OHP sheet 0.2 mm, heat gun temp 400-550 deg.C, OTG 100-250 deg.C,.
Procedure :
Pour the wax uniformly into the flat dish as it is lowered simultaneously.
Make a geometry with rigid members and attach them to the base of a flat dish with wax to not let it slide.
Pour hot melted wax onto the top of the members and let it flow, and simultaneously lower the dish along with the members.
Repeat the same with different geometries and vary number of members, and volume of wax .
Attach rigid members in grids to the plastic sheet and observe change in form.
20 candles weighing 5 gm each were taken and melted.
The temperature of water used was around 25 degrees Celsius.
Result - The experiment was without the use of a container. The melted wax was directly poured into the dish and then lowered slowly until it reached the bottom of the bucket. The wax began accumulating on top of the solidified wax and emerged into a branched form .
2 candles weighing 20 gm each were taken and melted.
The temperature of water used was around 25 degrees Celsius.
Result - This experiment revolved around pouring wax around 3 rigid members to guide the melted wax and form an organic shape. These members were tied at the top and let free at the base. Glue was not used anywhere, and the tie was removed once the wax set.
Wax was poured in little quantities by pouring individually on each member.
5 candles weighing 20 gm each were taken and melted.
The temperature of water used was around 25 degrees Celsius.
Result - This experiment revolved around pouring wax around 3 and 5 rigid members respectively to guide the melted wax and form an organic shape. These members were tied at the top and let free at the base. Glue was not used anywhere, and the tie was removed once the wax set.
