For the scoping idea I considered a family of 9 members. Then I designed a home for them taking into consideration the problems of space for their trading practices and better living conditions, keeping in mind the family living together intact.
On the ground floor we have the trading area, with three segregated places for the respective businesses. There is a promenade for a free flow of the street into the structure.
There are three separate rooms for the three parts of the family. The rooms have a sitting balcony that is cantilevered. There is a work table, bed, a cupboard. There is a ladder next to each room that leads up to the Mezzanine floor. The passageway has racks on one side for storage and leads to a toilet, above which is again a storage space, accessible with a ladder.
Climbing up the ladder beside each room we have space for children with a bed and a study table, which is cantilevered out from the structure just like the sitting balcony. There is a ladder leading to the space above the toilet, with storage space.
Due to the mezzanine floor, there is a void above the passage and the bedrooms, which gives volume for the sunlight to reach inside the rooms and the mezzanine floor since the space is open.
The roof of the sitting balcony on the first floor gives space for plantation on the mezzanine floor level.
Climbing up the stairs we reach the second floor which has the dining table, cooking area, and washing area. The dining table is circular to give way for people to move freely. As we go further in there is a cooking area with L-shaped 'Otla'. Further, there is a washing space that has a balcony-type opening. This helps in better air ventilation.
This Section shows the different levels in the house.
We can see the roof is sloping with skylights for the rooms. Also, the increase in the height on the first floor due to the mezzanine floor is clearly visible. There are plants on the roofing of the sitting balcony that act as sun protectors.
This model shows the overall structure of the house and its volume with respect to a human being. Also, the one above shows the placement of the proposed house in the locality.
