Attendance/Pick up/Drop off
Attendance is taken 3 times: First, on campus before leaving for the beach. Second, at the beach before the students enter the water and lastly, when the students exit the water before going home.
Safety and accountability: Anytime a student is present for attendance on campus, but will not be attending the beach, the student is responsible to inform their teacher and check out before the teacher leaves campus. If an unforeseen situation arises and the teacher has already left campus the student or their parent/carpool needs to either stop by the beach to inform their teacher they will not be attending class that day, or the student needs to inform Monica (attendance secretary) in the main office so she can call the teacher directly to inform them that the student will not be attending the beach. If a student fails to inform their teacher or attendance secretary in any of the above mentioned ways, the consequence is a detention.
Students may be picked up from school at approximately 1:15. Once arriving at the beach they are expected to check in with their teacher and be ready to enter the water no later then 1:40. After 1:40 students will start loosing points for not fully completing that days tasks.
Electric bikes, all students must be picked up by an adult in a vehicle from school. Students CANNOT ride their electric bike from school to the beach.
The drop off point at the beach is on Coast Blvd. across from Powerhouse Park.
To drop off you may briefly pull over to the east or west side of Coast blvd. (please do not double park).
As a courtesy you may use the metered Seagrove Parking Lot free of charge for approximately 10 minutes at the "START" and "END" of class for drop off and pick up ONLY. DO NOT leave your car unattended, you will be ticketed.
Once the students have all been accounted for the teachers duty ends at 2:40. Students may stay at the beach but after 2:40 they will be unsupervised.
NOTE: Due to confidentiality carpools must be arranged by parents. The staff and/or school is not allowed to be involved in arranging transportation to and from the beach.
At the Beach
Surf PE class is designed to be at the beach. Class only stays on campus to run the mile, complete state mandated fitness testing or if there is a safety issue preventing class from attending the beach.
The beach is for active participants only! Students who are unable to enter the water for any reason (ex: no leash, fins, board, etc.,) are to remain on campus or get picked up by a parent/guardian. If a student shows up to the beach without the necessary equipment and cannot take part in class/enter the water. The teacher will notify the parent. If this happens a second time the consequence is a detention. The same applies for beach workouts.
Students may surf or bodyboard only. It is a safety requirement at all times for surfers to have a leash and bodyboarders to have a leash and fins. If a student enters the water without a leash/fins a referral and class suspension is the consequence.
Cancellations and All Calls
Please make sure the school has your correct mobile phone number and email address in Aeries to receive text alerts, all calls and eblasts.
Due to bad weather or other situational factors we do our best to make any schedule changes by mid morning.
Beach workouts
On days when the lifeguards deem it is unsafe to enter the water we will usually conduct class wide beach workouts.
Shoes are required during beach workouts. Students are responsible to have appropriate shoes/footwear at the beach. If an unforeseen circumstance arises when we are at the beach and we cannot enter the water, students will complete a beach workout. *If a student does not have appropriate shoes/clothes for the beach workout they will make up the beach workout next class.
PE uniforms or workout attire are recommended, however, school clothes are acceptable (students cannot complete beach workouts in bathing suits or shirtless).
Students who are present on campus and do not attend the beach workout due to a parent note or an off grounds pass will make up the missed beach workout the next class before entering the water.
When surf PE class is held on campus
Surf students will also be issued a locker and lock for their personal PE belongings.
Students are required to have their PE uniform and appropriate shoes ready for on campus PE at all times.
