Department Goals and Learning Objectives

Mission statement

It is the mission of the Earl Warren Physical Education Department to provide all students with a holistic, well rounded, fun and personalized approach to health and physical fitness. To accomplish this we use a wide variety of activities and teaching methods to target a diverse student body of varying fitness and ability levels. As instructors, we make every effort to present health and fitness in an enthusiastic, educational and non-threatening fashion through individual and group learning techniques and activities with the goal of increasing physical literacy.

General Goals & Essential Learning Objectives

  • Understand the importance of physical literacy and improved personal fitness in the following areas of focus: Muscular strength, cardiovascular endurance, muscular endurance, flexibility and body composition

  • Improve motor control and coordination

  • Demonstrate correct throwing technique

  • Learn and apply basic offensive and defensive strategies through teamwork

  • Understand and demonstrate appropriate pre and post fitness routines

  • Learn and identify the major muscle groups

  • Understand and apply the basic rules for specific activities

  • Develop habits of personal responsibility in learning to advocate for oneself

  • Practice the importance of personal hygiene
