PALs is more than just a leadership program—it is a tight-knit community built on empathy, support, and personal connection. Unlike other leadership programs that focus primarily on school events and spirit, PALs prioritizes mental health, emotional well-being, and fostering a sense of belonging on campus. PALs are role models, mentors, and friends who create a judgment-free space where students feel heard, valued, and supported. By sharing personal experiences and offering guidance, PALs strive to be the people they once needed, ensuring that every student at CCA has someone to turn to.
What sets PALs apart is its deep focus on student-to-student connections. While other programs emphasize large-scale leadership, PALs work on an individual level, making the school a better place through kindness, trust, and inclusivity. PALs host unique events like Mental Health Awareness Week and Community Day, which go beyond entertainment and focus on well-being, connection, and personal growth. The program fosters creativity, innovation, and collaboration, encouraging students to build each other up and create lasting, positive change within the school. More than just leaders, PALs are the heart of the campus—offering encouragement, listening without judgment, and ensuring that every student feels safe, supported, and included.
The application process for new PALs begins during the spring semester as you begin your class selection for the following school year. Students fill out an application and get two* letters of recommendation. Applications will be pre-screened, and then interviews will be held in Early/Mid April. The students selected at that time (most likely mid-May) will be notified of their acceptance and need to confirm with their counselor to add this class to their schedule for period 2 of the fall, spring, or both semesters of the following academic year (selecting both semesters is highly recommended).
Steps to apply:

"Being a PAL means being a kind, empathetic leader who builds connections and ensures every student feels part of a supportive community. PALS has helped me discover a passion for mental wellness and community-building while helping me find my own group on campus. It’s a welcoming place filled with genuine people, and Ms. Cesca is the best. Through working together to strengthen our school community, I’ve made some of my closest friends. PALS has also helped me grow personally. I've become better at sharing, communicating, listening, and gained confidence that I carry with me everywhere. I’ll always be grateful for joining PALS." - Class of 2025
"Before joining PALS, I’d get really uncomfortable when people shared their problems with me. I’d feel like a bad friend for not wanting to be there, but I thought that was just who I was. After joining PALS, I realized my issue was not knowing how to handle those situations, which made me uncomfortable. Once I learned how to respond to others’ feelings, it became easier to talk people through their emotions, and even my own. I struggled mentally and emotionally through elementary and middle school, thinking it was something I had to deal with alone, which only made it worse. Becoming a PAL showed me I don’t have to go through everything alone, and I learned what I can handle and when I need help. PALS has opened my eyes to a new way of thinking and really helped my emotional and social well-being. Joining PALS was one of the best decisions I’ve made in high school." - Class of 2027
"PALS has truly changed my life. It’s given me so many opportunities and friendships across all grades. I thought I was social before, but this program pushed me even further. More than anything, PALS taught me about trust; I know these people will listen, support me, and keep what I share private." - Class of 2027
"I met my best friend in PALS, and it’s the best part of my day. I walk in with music playing, dancing like a fool, because PALS gave me the confidence to be myself. It’s become a part of who I am." - Class of 2025
"Being a PAL isn’t just about being popular, energetic, a great party planner, or having one specific talent. Sure, those skills are useful, but being a PAL is taking the time to listen and to be a good person, which anyone can do. PALs has helped me a lot with learning how to listen to my friends and family, as well as recognizing when I should say something." - Class of 2028
"PALS has helped me make friends across all grades, boosted my confidence, and improved my public speaking. It’s made me a better leader, communicator, and team player while giving me the chance to support my peers. I look forward to this class every day because it’s shown me the importance of creating a welcoming environment for everyone." - Class of 2026
