Targeted SLO
Critical Thinking:
Critical Thinking - The Writers Workshop-OA student will be able to increase their knowledge of the components and structures of language required to communicate through writing by interpreting, evaluating, analyzing, and comparing written work in various genres, and by applying that information to compose original works.
Suggested activity:
Students will read a published work of fiction, nonfiction, or poetry, and then participate in a class discussion about the techniques the author used to make the writing effective. After the discussion, students will make a list of three things the author did that they might want to try in their own writing, or they will respond to a writing prompt based on a selected craft element from the reading.
Assessment questions:
· Were you able to identify craft elements used in the course reading? Yes/No
On a scale of 1 (low) to 5 (high), how effective was this activity in helping you to find new techniques and strategies you can use in your own writing?
