Shiloh Museum of Ozark History is a regional history museum that highlights the history of the Northwest Arkansas Ozarks. The museum derives its name from the pioneer community of Shiloh, which evolved into Springdale in the 1870s. The former Springdale Public Library building was selected as the inaugural location for the museum. On September 7, 1968, the Shiloh Museum opened its doors to the public. The name "Shiloh" pays tribute to the settlement and church established in the 1840s at the site of present-day Springdale. After the purchase, city officials moved the collection into a vacant building. With guidance from the University of Arkansas Museum staff, volunteers interested in archaeology identified, classified, and cataloged the objects. The City soon hired an amateur archaeologist on a part-time basis. They also appointed a board of trustees to organize a museum. The city approved the first bylaws in May 1968.
