6th Grade Music
Aims and Objectives
The curriculum is based off of the Illinois State Board of Education Music Standards. The objectives of this course will be to create, connect, respond, and perform in the musical setting. Each unit in this quarter incorporates one or more of those objectives!
Course Content
Rhythms (quarter notes, eighth notes, quarter rests, half notes)
Musical Elements (Tempo, Timbre, Tonality, Dynamics, Pitch, Harmony)
Composition (rhythmic and melodic)
Xylophone Playing Basics
Musical Theatre
Assessment/Classwork
Classwork is 30% of the final grade and projects/assessments will be 70% of the final grade.
Listening Logs/Bellringers - Classwork
Students will complete a listening log and bellringer every day in class. They will listen to a song chosen by Mrs. Terry and will write about the musical elements of the song, as well as any comments they have regarding the song.
Final Products of Units - Assessment
At the end of a unit, students will have a final product to turn in and/or share with the class. These final products differ for each unit.
Assignments - Classwork
Throughout units, students will be doing some additional assignments during class to supplement their learning. These will be classwork and if not finished, will need to be completed outside of class.
