7th Grade Music
Aims and Objectives
The curriculum is based off of the Illinois State Board of Education Music Standards. The objectives of this course will be to create, connect, respond, and perform in the musical setting. Each unit in this semester incorporates one or more of those objectives!
Course Content
7th Grade Semester 1: Instrument Exploration
Drums, Xylophone, Ukulele, Rhythm, Notes on the Staff, Group Compositions
7th Grade Semester 2: Exploring the Genres
History and Making the Music of Pop, Country, Blues, Hip-Hop, Jazz, and more!
Assessment/Classwork
Classwork is 30% of the final grade and projects/assessments will be 70% of the final grade.
Listening Logs/Bellringers - Classwork
Students will complete a listening log/bellringers every day in class. They will listen to a song chosen by Ms. Durst and will write about the characteristics of the song, as well as any comments they have regarding the song.
Tests - Assessment
Summative and Formative assessments are used to track student learning in music class. This will happen at the end of units.
Projects - Assessment
In some units, students will have a project to turn in and/or share with the class. These final products differ for each unit.
Additional Assignments - Classwork
Throughout units in class, students will be asked to complete additional assignments. These are intended to be done during class, if not finished they will need to be completed outside of class.
