STOMPING

S.T.O.M.P.I.N.G. is a mnemonic device inspired by the joyful exuberance of the multidisciplinary performing group STOMP, which blends music, dance and theatre in a powerful, moving presentation. The mnemonic helps us be mindful of all aspects of music learning, encapsulating sound, time, organizational constructs, musicality, performing, introspection, inventiveness, history and culture, and leadership/mentoring. Music learning is clearly a cognitive and emotional experience, and the notion of STOMPING acknowledges that it is also highly kinaesthetic. Education psychologist Benjamin Bloom taught the world that learning is most effective when it takes place in all three of these domains simultaneously (In the words of Bloom scholar Dale Lonis, "We think, we feel, and we DO!")
