At Umoja International Academy, PE is more than exercise. It is about building a community where every student can learn, grow, and succeed. Clear expectations help us create a safe and supportive space for all.
Be on time and in your assigned space when the bell rings
Dress out in the full PE uniform and athletic shoes for safety
Participate fully and give your best effort every day
Show respect and sportsmanship toward classmates, staff, and the learning environment
Keep phones and electronics put away during class (in lockers, bags, or with the teacher if needed)
Use the restroom before class begins unless there is an emergency
Follow directions and use equipment safely to protect yourself and others
Be prepared with your uniform, water, and a positive attitude
Use kind words and actions at all times
Keep hands, feet, and belongings to yourself
Listen, follow instructions, and stay engaged throughout the lesson
Not being in your assigned spot when class begins
Not dressing out in the proper PE uniform and shoes
Choosing not to participate in class activities
Making unsafe choices that put yourself or others at risk
Using disrespectful or hurtful language toward classmates or staff
Eating or drinking in class (water is always welcome, other items require teacher approval)
Horseplay or rough play (including play fighting)
When expectations are not met, we focus on accountability and growth:
Reminder – a chance to correct the choice and get back on track
Reset – a short break with a private check-in if behavior continues
Reflection – a conversation during lunch or after class, along with parent or guardian contact
If concerns continue, families and support staff will be included to ensure every student has what they need to be successful.

Growth: effort matters, progress is celebrated, and mistakes are part of learning
Uniforms and lockers are part of creating a safe, consistent, and inclusive environment in PE.
Students must wear the designated PE shirt, black athletic shorts/sweats along with athletic shoes each day
The PE uniform ensures safety, freedom of movement, and a sense of team unity
Students are expected to bring their uniform daily. Forgetting to dress out impacts participation and daily points
If there are challenges obtaining a uniform, families are encouraged to contact the PE department so solutions can be provided
Each student will be assigned a locker and a lock for PE (personal lock may be used)
Lockers must be used to store personal belongings, including phones and electronics, during class
Students are responsible for securing their own items and keeping locker areas clean
Locker use is a privilege that requires responsibility and respect for shared space
By following these expectations, students help create a safe and supportive environment where everyone can focus on growth, teamwork, and personal health.
